Moravian Road Bridge
THIS SQUARE BEAM WAS TAKEN OUT OF THE RIVER INSIDE THE NEW COFFER DAM AREA AT THE NORTH SIDE OF THE OLD MORAVIAN BRIDGE. IT ALMOST 18' LONG. BOTH ENDS APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AT SOME TIME SO THE ACTUAL LENGTH WAS PROBABLY LONGER. IT IS 12” SQUARE. THERE ARE TWO RECTANGULAR SLOTS ONE AT EACH END WITH TWO HOLES DRILLED THROUGH THE BEAM AND SLOTS, MORE THAN LIKELY FOR WOODEN PEGS. THE SLOTS ARE 14” LONG AND 5” HIGH AND DO NOT GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE BEAM (IT IS A BLIND HOLE OR SLOT). THE BEAM IS HAND HEWN.
