Thomas Dean

Thomas Dean traveled from upstate New York along rivers and sometimes over land and to what is now Indiana and back. From Detroit it was possible, with a short portage by Fort Wayne, to travel all the way to the Gulf of Mexico by canoe on the Detroit, Maumee, Wabash, Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers. If you decide to do this, think about writing a journal and we can publish it on these pages.

If you enjoyed reading about Thomas Dean, go to the links, click on Indiana Historical Bureau, and read Henry Hamilton's Journal.

Here is a link to a digitized Thomas Dean Journal that has a nice picture of his home and also a map.
